A 20-minute weekly review of comps, voids and discounts
Use your own targets to decide which comps, voids and discounts deserve a conversation—and which are just the cost of good hospitality.
Comps and discounts are often the right call. The goal of a weekly review isn’t to eliminate them; it’s to know why they happened and whether the pattern matches what you intend.
Set targets first
In Restaurant Builder, record the limits you consider normal for your concept. 86’d compares each week with those targets. Without targets, every number looks either fine or alarming.
The review
- Open Money Leaks for last week. Note which categories are above target.
- Open Reports and filter discounts and comps by day and manager.
- Read the manager log entries for the days that stand out—the reason is often already written down.
- Decide: is this intended (a VIP night, a kitchen error handled well) or a pattern to address?
- Create a task for any follow-up, with an owner and due date.
Voids are above target on two Saturdays. The log shows a new POS menu button caused re-rings. The GM creates a task to fix the button and retrain the team at pre-shift. The next two Saturdays come in within target.
Illustrative only—not a customer result.
What to bring to the owners’ meeting
- The Weekly Owner Report for each location.
- One sentence on each above-target category: cause and action.
- Tasks created, and who owns them.
